VIJAYAWADA: Endowments commissioner Ramachandra Mohan has instructed officials to ensure that this year’s Dasara at the famous Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam atop Indrakeeladri in Vijayawada is eco-friendly.

“Ensure that all plastic materials are replaced with recyclable and sustainable materials,” the commissioner told the Durga Temple officials, including temple executive officer Sheena Naik, at a review meeting on Sunday.

He said as per the directives of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, the 10-day Dasara festivities scheduled from September 22 to October 2 will be hosted on a much grander scale than the previous years. “Every effort is being made to ensure the celebrations are both magnificent and well-organised. Special attention is being paid to ensure smooth darshan for devotees without causing them any inconvenience,” Ramachandra Mohan said.

Officials have been directed to serve drinking water and annaprasadam to devotees in the queue lines to have the darshan of Goddess Durga during the Navaratri festivities.

The commissioner said as per instructions of Endowments minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, authorities will distribute free laddu prasadam to all devotees on September 29, coinciding with the Moola Nakshatram, considered the Goddess’s birth star, and on the Vijayadashami Day, October 2.

Ramachandra Mohan said endowment officials will constantly monitor the festivities in collaboration with all stakeholder departments to celebrate the festival in a manner that blends grandeur with devotion, providing a fulfilling experience to lakhs of devotees arriving atop the Indrakeeladri during the Navaratri.
