Attack on YSRC Candidate’s Convoy
Tense situation at Jammalamadugu
Anantapur:Tension prevailed in Jammalamadugu town in Kadapa district after rivals allegedly pelted stones at the car of YSRC municipal election candidate K Haimavathi and her convoy of vehicles.
The candidate was returning with her convoy after election campaigning on Friday afternoon.
The incident occurred near Gandhi statue centre, triggering panic among the candidate and party cadres. Haimavathi escaped unhurt in the attack. The incident created a political storm in the town, with YSRC leaders alleging that the attack was part of a conspiracy by rival political groups to intimidate their candidate during the election campaign.
Soon after receiving information about the incident, a large number of YSRC leaders and workers rushed to the spot. Former MLA Ramasubba Reddy's wife Indiramma, along with Haimavathi and party activists, staged a protest at Gandhi statue centre, condemning the attack.
The protesters blocked roads and raised slogans demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible for the attack and action against the alleged masterminds. The protest led to traffic disruption in the busy town centre.
With tensions escalating between the ruling alliance and opposition party workers, police deployed additional forces at sensitive locations and erected barricades at important junctions to prevent incidents.
While many municipalities and ZPTCs had unanimous elections in Kadapa district, the YSRC cadres were struggling in Jammalamadugu municipality. Sources said the candidate was on campaign in the 6th and 7th municipal wards when the attack came from TD cadres.
