Pawan Kalyan Expresses Concern over Hardships to Indian Fishermen in Sea
Kalyan's appeal came after 24 fishermen from Tamil Nadu's Nagapattinam district were reportedly attacked in five separate mid-sea incidents in the Bay of Bengal on Friday.
Vijayawada: Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan has raised concern over the 24 Indian fishermen hailing from Nagapattinam district in Tamil Nadu facing confrontations with Sri Lankan fishermen during fishing on maritime border, resulting in hardships and even injuries in five separate incidents in the Bay of Bengal. He urged the Union ministry of external affairs to take note of these repeated incidents and address them in an amicable manner.
In a post on social media, the Deputy CM said, “It is distressing to learn that these fishermen from Nagapattinam district faced hardships and even sustained injuries reportedly due to confrontations at sea, which have also impacted their livelihoods.”
“In the light of longstanding cordial and warm relationships shared by India and Sri Lanka, I respectfully urge the ministry of external affairs to address these recurring situations. It is imperative that the governments of India and Sri Lanka engage in constructive and sustained dialogue to address these concerns in a spirit of mutual cooperation. I also appeal for continued efforts to uphold the safety and dignity of fishermen on both sides and to reinforce respect for maritime boundaries through collaborative understanding and goodwill.”
