The devastating explosion that claimed seven lives near Peechu Mamidi village in Pinnakota panchayat of Ananthagiri mandal in Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR) district has left a trail of destruction in its wake.

The cause of the blast is said to be workers pouring diesel into a vehicle while the gelatine sticks had been stored nearby. The blast, apart from killing people, sent shockwaves across surrounding habitations.

Several houses located around 20 metres from the blast have suffered extensive damage. While roof sheets got blown away, walls have developed deep cracks. Walls of some of the houses have gaping openings.

Luckily, most villagers had gone to nearby hills for cultivation. When they rushed back hearing the thunderous explosion, several found their homes damaged and exposed to the elements.

"We are worried how we will survive if it rains," said villagers, pointing to the cracked walls and damaged roofs. Many families in the village are already in financial distress and wondering how they can repair their homes.

Peechu Mamidi residents, including Chinta Banni and Korra Jammulu, have appealed to the ASR district collector to visit the village and assess the damage. They have demanded that the government compensate affected families and allot new houses to those whose homes have been severely damaged. Roofing sheets and cement must be supplied so that villagers could repair their houses.

Villagers said timely government assistance is essential to restore normalcy and ensure justice to those affected by the tragedy.
