Vijayawada: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to digitise 750 inscriptions at Venkateswara temple in Tirumala under Bharat Shared Repository of Inscriptions project in Andhra Pradesh.

The ASI’s epigraphy branch has taken up the digitisation works of all the 750 inscriptions available at several locations in the Tirumala temple in Tirupati district.

Earlier, 44 inscriptions were copied from the second Prakara in 1889, 1904,1912 and 1916 and subsequently, 53 inscriptions were copied in 2008-09 from the walls of the sanctum sanatorium of the Tirumala temple.

The ASI started copying nearly 600 inscriptions on Tuesday in the temple and it is expecting that the copying of all 750 inscriptions will help understand the political, social, religious, economic and cultural history of the temple in Tirumala.
