Vijayawada: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has discovered a set of five copper plate leaves bearing an inscription of Vijayanagara king Srirangaraya-I at Kalahasti in Tirupati district, Andhra Pradesh.
The plates are inscribed in Sanskrit using Nandinagari script and are dated November 3, 1576 CE.
The inscription records the royal grant of several villages — including Nadukadu, Kampilli, Andalamala, Upateru, Dugarajapattana, Piligunchalapotu, Chimalapadu, and Tirumuru (renamed as Vengalambapura) — to the Brahmana Lakshmipathi Bhatta, son of Timmavadhani and grandson of Yadati Narasabhupala of Pedanadusima in Chandragiri Rajya. The grant was made by King Srirangaraya, who was married to Tirumaladevi and Krishnamba, to support temple services, provide food offerings, and undertake renovation works at the Sri Kalahastisvara Temple.
The grant was composed by Ganapayacharya, son of Virana. The inscription is currently in the possession of Dr Parashuram Gurukul of Kalahasti in Tirupati district.
