The ‘Currentolla Janabata’ initiative was designed to take the power department directly to consumers and address their problems without delay: Energy minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar
TIRUPATI: Energy minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar on Monday inaugurated ‘Currentolla Janabata’, a village-level outreach programme of the Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (APSPDCL), aimed at improving power services and consumer grievance redressal. The programme was launched in Krishnapuram village, Pakala mandal, Tirupati district. The minister also inaugurated a newly constructed 33/11 kV substation at Mogarala village.
Speaking on the occasion, Ravi Kumar said the ‘Currentolla Janabata’ initiative was designed to take the power department directly to consumers and address their problems without delay.
Under the programme, electricity officials and field staff will visit identified villages to inspect 11 kV, LT, and agricultural power lines and carry out necessary work on the spot. He said special care would be taken to prevent electrical accidents in schools and anganwadi centres by implementing precautionary safety measures.
The minister instructed officials and staff to remain alert at all times and respond promptly to consumer complaints. He also stressed the need to create awareness among rural consumers about rooftop solar systems and encouraged their adoption. The minister interacted with residents of Krishnapuram village and sought feedback on power supply, billing, and service-related issues, stating that such interactions would help the utility address local problems more effectively.
After inaugurating the Mogarala substation, he said new substations were being constructed wherever required to ensure a reliable, high-quality power supply to consumers. He said that under the PM-KUSUM scheme, feeder solarisation projects were being undertaken to ensure that farmers receive 9 hours of daytime solar power.
Later in the day, the minister distributed appointment letters to 50 candidates selected under compassionate appointments in APSPDCL. Addressing employees at the APSPDCL corporate office, he said quality services to consumers were possible due to the collective efforts of employees and urged them to continue discharging their duties responsibly.
