Visakhapatnam: With the Sankranti and Kanuma festivals around the corner, the Andhra Pradesh Central Power Distribution Company Limited (APCPDCL) has urged the people to exercise caution while celebrating, particularly during kite flying.
In a press release issued on Monday, Visakhapatnam circle superintending engineer G. Shyambabu highlighted the importance of safety measures to prevent electrical accidents.
He noted that kite flying, a popular activity during the festive season, can pose serious risks if conducted near power lines, poles, or transformers. The official advised that kites should be flown only in open areas free of electrical infrastructure.
Shyambabu warned against attempting to retrieve kites that become entangled in wires or poles, stressing that such actions could lead to dangerous accidents. In the event of any electrical mishap, the public is asked to immediately inform the electricity department staff or call the emergency helpline at 1912 and to follow the standard safety regulations.
Shyambabu further highlighted the need for adult supervision when children are flying kites, reiterating that they should only do so in safe, open spaces away from power lines. He also cautioned against approaching private individuals for electricity-related problems, urging people to contact only authorised department staff for resolution. The statement also mentioned precautions regarding flex banners, advising that they be installed and removed only in areas clear of power wires. Residents flying kites from rooftops were reminded to stay aware of nearby electrical lines and adjust their activities accordingly.
