Vijayawada:The Andhra Pradesh government would take up a special door-to-door survey to identify people with symptoms of oral, cervical or breast cancer. The survey would begin in October, targeting 4.10 crore people aged above.

Styled as Non-Communicable Disease 4.0, the state health authorities would undertake a training programme from August 21 for the survey involving 18,000 personnel. This would include paramedical staff and doctors.

The programme would involve primary medical tests and a provision for medical treatment to the patients after identifying those with the symptoms of cancer.

While senior doctors would be involved in the training process, local public representatives would also assist the survey.

They would ask 28 questions. In case of women, questions will be related to oral, cervical and breast cancer; and in case of men, they will be asked mainly about oral cancer symptoms.

Preliminary tests would be done on patients showing symptoms. Once the patients are diagnosed with preliminary symptoms, they would be further tested to confirm the diseases by involving the local senior doctors. Subsequently, they would be shifted to the preventive medical oncology units in the teaching hospitals, according to a statement from health minister Satya Kumar Yadav.

The state government had carried out a survey under NCD-3.0 in November last with a set of 225 questions and identified people suffering from high blood pressure, high blood sugar and cancer. This was inconclusive.
