Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government will soon introduce a two-year M.Phil programme and a one-year PG Diploma in Clinical Psychology.

Minister for health Satya Kumar Yadav announced this on Saturday through ‘X’ and said, “I am happy to share that the NDA government in AP, led by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, will actively promote clinical psychology courses in the state, as they have unfortunately not been offered so far. I have instructed the concerned department to finalise the guidelines for launching these two courses at the earliest.”
“We will take the necessary steps in consultation with the Rehabilitation Council of India, the regulatory body for clinical psychology education,” he added.
The minister emphasised that clinical psychology plays a vital role in diagnosing and treating individuals with various psychological issues, as well as in rehabilitating patients across different categories. He pointed out that there are currently very few clinical psychologists in both public and private hospitals in the state, which is why the government is introducing these courses.
He further stated that, given the increasing incidence of mental ill-health and the shortage of clinical psychologists, the government had decided to start these courses in the state.
