AP to Start Survey of Cancer Cases in State from September
Satya Kumar maintained that the government aims to reduce the maternal mortality rate from 45 to 5 and infant mortality rate from 23 to 2.
Kakinada: AP Medical, Health and Family Welfare minister Y. Satya Kumar Yadav reiterated that the state government will conduct a survey of cancer cases prevalent in the state from September, with focus on breast and cervical cancer.
Satya Kumar, along with MLAs Adireddy Srinivas (Rajamahendravaram Urban), Bathula Bala Ramakrishna (Rajanagaram), Nallamilli Ramakrishna Reddy (Anaparthi), MLC Somu Veerraju and East Godavari district collector P. Prashanthi, inaugurated the second and third floors of the Mother and Child Health Centre at the Rajamahendravaram Government General Hospital on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said eminent oncologist Nori Dattatreyudu is providing advice and suggestions on successfully dealing with containing cancer cases in the state. He pointed out that the state government is providing HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccines to girls free of cost to curb cervical cancer.
He said the paediatric and neonatal intensive care units have been started at the Rajamahendravaram GGH at a cost of ₹11 crore, with 75 beds in the children ward and 25 in the mothers’ ward. He underlined that facilities provided in these wards are comparable to those available in corporate hospitals.

In this regard, he said ₹352 crore have been released for three medical colleges at Paderu, Piduguralla and Machilipatnam. Steps are being taken to fill the 50 per cent vacancies in the super speciality wings of various hospitals in the state.
Later speaking at a function at Rajanagaram, the minister accused the previous YSRC government of neglecting medical and health. He said the present alliance government is setting up 100 primary health centres to overcome the difficulties that people are facing, particularly in the rural areas. He underlined that CHO, ANM and ASHA workers have been appointed to improve health care.
Satya Kumar said the situation will further improve with the centre sanctioning 3,500 village health and wellness centres to AP.
