Vijayawada: Principal secretary (Municipal Administration and Urban Development) S. Suresh Kumar on Monday called upon officials to take up a special drive and collect 100 per cent of the taxes due by the end of March.

Presiding over a meeting at the secretariat here that reviewed property and vacant land tax collections within municipal corporations, municipalities and nagar panchayats, the principal secretary realised that the collection of taxes has not been up to the mark. He then ordered officials to take up a special drive for tax collections by issuing notices to those who have not paid their taxes yet.
Suresh Kumar asked municipal commissioners to collect details of taxes due from sub-registrar offices and serve notices digitally and through WhatsApp, along with online payment links, so that tax dues are collected promptly.
The principal secretary said the state government will give cash prizes and other incentives to municipal commissioners who succeed in mobilising tax revenues.
