AP Records First Pancreas Donation Under Jeevan Daan
The management of KIMS ICON Hospital also thanked the family for their decision and acknowledged their contribution to promoting organ donation
VISAKHAPATNAM: Andhra Pradesh has recorded its first pancreas donation under the AP Jeevan Daan programme, marking a significant milestone in the state's organ transplantation initiative.
The donor, Marishetty Chinna Rao (26), a resident of Munagapaka village in Anakapalli district, sustained severe injuries in a road accident and was admitted to KIMS ICON Hospital in Visakhapatnam. After he was declared brain dead, his family consented to donate his organs.
Following counselling by Dr Manmadha Rao, state coordinator of AP Jeevan Daan, the family agreed to donate both kidneys, the liver and the pancreas, enabling multiple patients awaiting transplants to benefit.
Dr Manmadha Rao said this was the first pancreas donation facilitated under the AP Jeevan Daan programme and described it as a major milestone in strengthening organ donation and transplantation in the state.
He commended the donor's family for their decision, saying their gesture would help create greater awareness about organ donation. He appealed to the public to come forward and support organ donation, noting that a single donor can save several lives.
The management of KIMS ICON Hospital also thanked the family for their decision and acknowledged their contribution to promoting organ donation.
