AP Plans STPs in 80 Government Hospitals at Rs.83 Crore
Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav reviewed the proposal with senior officials and technical experts in Vijayawada on Saturday and directed them to complete the installation of STPs within 10 months.
Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government has proposed to establish sewage treatment plants (STPs) in 80 government hospitals across the state at an estimated cost of Rs.83 crore.
Health minister Satya Kumar Yadav reviewed the proposal with senior officials and technical experts in Vijayawada on Saturday and directed them to complete the installation of STPs within 10 months.
Expressing concern over the lack of adequate sewage treatment facilities in government hospitals, the minister stressed the need to improve sanitation infrastructure.
He also directed officials to ensure the proper disposal of biomedical waste without any lapses and instructed that the entire disposal process be monitored through CCTV cameras.
The minister further directed officials to regulate the entry of visitors into hospitals to minimise the risk of the spread of infectious diseases. He suggested implementing the restrictions initially in intensive care units (ICUs) and other critical wards, allowing attendants and visitors only during stipulated visiting hours.
