VIJAYAWADA: The ministerial committee that considered a need for changes to districts would submit its report to Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu by September 15.

The panel would recommend names and boundary changes for districts, mandals, and villages across the state in what looks like a major revamp of the administrative units.

The first meeting of the panel held at the secretariat on Wednesday was attended by revenue minister Anagani Sathya Prasad and six others. The meeting was also attended by senior officials from the revenue department. Sathya Prasad stated that the deadline for completing the overall process is December 31 and the report would reach the chief minister by mid-September.

The ministerial team will be visiting unified district headquarters in two groups on August 29 and 30 to receive public petitions. The people and their representatives are encouraged to submit their requests and suggestions by Sept 2. Numerous proposals have already been discussed.

“Those who have ideas or concerns can start submitting these to their district collector. The GoM will consider not just the name changes and boundary adjustments but also the establishment of new districts. The panel would focus on administrative convenience, accessibility for the public, and enhancing government revenue,” he said.

Civil supplies minister Nadendla Manohar said the team would also visit two tribal areas to gather feedback, ensuring that the services are accessible to tribal populations as well.

During the panel’s meeting, 15 individuals presented their proposals on the names and boundary changes of districts, mandals and villages. Former minister Dokka Manikyavaraprasad requested that the naming Guntur or Palnadu district be named after poet Gurraam Jashuva. Some people from Chirala sought renaming of Bapatla district to Chirala, and proposed the name Duggirala Gopala Krishnayya for the Bapatla district.

Residents from Murapaka in Srikakulam district sought to have their village declared a mandal headquarters. The village sarpanch and the people of Madicharla in Krishna district requested transfer of their village from Bapulapadu mandal to either Nuzvid or Musunuru.
