KAKINADA: Lok Sabha member P. Midhun Reddy of the YSRC was sent to the Central Jail at Rajamahendravaram after a court remanded him in the AP liquor scam case on Sunday.

Prior to his arrival, tension prevailed in front of the central jail for some time, with YSRC leaders and workers stating a protest against the MP’s arrest. The YSRC East Godavari district president and former minister Srinivasa Venugopala Krishna, former MLAs Sathi Suryanarayana Reddy, Talari Venkata Rao, ex-MP Margani Bharat, YSRC youth wing leader Jakkampudi Ganesh and others, along with their cadres, staged the protest.

They alleged that the alliance government illegally arrested Midhun Reddy, though he was not in any way related to the liquor scam. They said chief minister Chandrababu Naidu and his son Nara Lokesh are acting in vengeance and harassing the YSRC leaders through illegal arrests.

The police dispersed the agitators half-an-hour before Midhun Reddy was brought to the central jail. Jail personnel, led by its superintendent Rahul completed the formalities and took the YSRC MP to the jail.
