AP Govt To Give 5G Phones To 58,204 Anganwadi Workers
Around 1.25 lakh staff are serving in 55,204 Anganwadi centres across Andhra Pradesh, and the upgraded devices will help them access digital services more efficiently: child welfare Gummadi Sandhya Rani
VIJAYAWADA: Minister for women and child welfare Gummadi Sandhya Rani on Wednesday announced that the state government will distribute 5G mobile phones to 58,204 Anganwadi workers at a cost of ₹75 crore to improve service delivery for pregnant women, lactating mothers and children.
Launching the distribution programme for workers, supervisors and block coordinators, she said the 4G phones supplied by the previous government were not functioning properly, affecting field-level reporting and implementation of schemes.
She said around 1.25 lakh staff are serving in 55,204 Anganwadi centres across Andhra Pradesh, and the upgraded devices will help them access digital services more efficiently.
The Minister said the Women and Child Welfare Department has secured an A++ rank and fourth position nationally for service delivery. She urged staff to continue working with commitment to achieve 100 per cent results.
Sandhya Rani credited Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for revising Anganwadi workers’ honorarium three times in the past, increasing it from ₹1,200 to ₹2,200. She said the government is considering a proposal to extend eligibility for welfare schemes to Anganwadi teachers and ASHA workers in rural areas.
