AP Government to Transform Mypadu Beach Into Tourism Hub
Project includes canal boat rides, resorts, CCTV, and lifeguards to boost tourism, safety
Tirupati: AP government has unveiled plans to develop the Mypadu Beach in Nellore district into a Kerala-style tourism destination, with proposals including boat rides along a six-kilometre saltwater canal, apart from silt clearance to allow direct access for fishing boats.
The initiative envisions supporting hotels, resorts, homestays and food courts to boost local livelihoods, apart from deploying lifeguards and installing CCTV cameras for the safety of visitors.
Participating in a meeting that reviewed the master plan for the Mypadu Beach on Friday, Kovur MLA Vemireddy Prasanthi Reddy said development of the beach is a key part of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s vision for promoting tourism in the region. She highlighted the recent construction of Bangaramma Temple near the beach, which will bestow spirituality to the beach.
The MLA noted that the long-delayed Nellore-Mypadu road project has now gained momentum and will be inaugurated soon. The Mudivarthi-Mudivarthipalem causeway across the Penna River is being expedited to reduce travel time between Indukurupet and Vidavalur mandals, apart from addressing saltwater intrusion that affects coastal residents.
Highlighting other development works in Indukurupet mandal, Prasanthi Reddy said the 33 KV power substation at Kuditipalem will resolve voltage issues. She pointed out that in the wake of the previous government deciding to merge the Indukurupet electricity revenue office with the Kovur office, she has taken up the issue with Power Minister Gottipati Ravi to retain the office in Indukurupet.
Those who participated in the meeting included district collector O. Anand, Indukurupet tahsildar Gopi Krishna, officials of the tourism and R&B departments, panchayat representatives and residents of Mypadu village.
