Vijayawada: Real Time Governance Society (RTGS) secretary Bhaskar Katamaneni announced that 20 state government departments have been asked to shortlist staff who will be given a four-day intensive training programme in artificial intelligence (AI), so that they can become change agents.
The RTGS secretary disclosed this information on the second day of the high-level workshop on "AI and Emerging Technologies for Government Digital Transformation", organised in collaboration with the Wadhwani Centre for Government Digital Transformation (WGDT) in Amaravati.
The workshop has been organised for senior and mid-level officers, so that they can implement AI-driven innovations across government functions.
Bhaskar said the 20 departments chosen for the purpose deal with 80 per cent of the government operations. These departments will work in close coordination with the IT Department and WGDT to identify department-specific problems, which can be converted into Proof of Concept (PoC) solutions, and later scaled up for full-fledged implementation.
The RTGS secretary said about 100 to 150 concepts will emerge, which will improve governance and service delivery.
“Digital transformation, driven by emerging technologies, like AI and machine learning (ML), is vital for achieving the government’s vision of ‘Minimum Government – Maximum Governance,’” Bhaskar underlined.
He emphasised that the state government recognises the growing need to accelerate AI adoption in internal workflows for efficient service delivery, economic development and real-time impact analysis.
Accordingly, senior officers will lead adoption of artificial intelligence as AI champions and AI catalysts. Mid-level officials will support and execute the AI-led projects under their guidance.
The RTGS secretary said training in AI includes in-person workshops, mentorship from subject matter experts and structured project development. Each department will have a team of 3–4 members, including a director or above rank officer, who will serve as the AI Champion. Other enthusiastic officers will be trained as AI catalysts, he added.
