AP Government Planning a Major Industrial Hub at Kosala Nagaram

Tirupati: Andhra Pradesh government is planning to develop Kosala Nagaram Industrial Park in Chittoor district as a major manufacturing hub to attract investments and create employment. Located close to Tamil Nadu border, the developed manufacturing is expected to benefit from its connectivity to highways, ports, and airports.

In this regard, Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has directed the AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) to acquire an additional 5,000 acres in the Kosala Nagaram area for future industrial expansion. If required, the CM said issues related to the adjoining forest land could be resolved to facilitate development.

APIIC already owns 2,042.13 acres at Kosala Nagaram. Officials said the site requires extensive land levelling before industries can begin operations. As the work involves significant expenditure, the government is considering private participation in developing the industrial park and creating basic infrastructure.

According to APIIC, automobile manufacturers from Ambattur in Tamil Nadu have expressed interest in establishing units at the Kosala Nagaram park. Investors from the textile and food processing sectors have also shown interest in setting up their industries in the area.

The proposed manufacturing hub is located near the Chittoor-Tachur National Highway and has access to Krishnapatnam and Kattupalli ports. Chennai and Tirupati airports are also within easy reach. The region has an adequate pool of skilled manpower.

However, water remains the key infrastructure challenge. State government has given in-principle approval for a balancing reservoir to meet future water requirements. Water is proposed to be supplied from the Galeru Nagari Sujala Sravanthi (GNSS) project expected to be completed in December 2028. Until then, temporary arrangements are to be made.

"The government has decided to earmark 500 acres for a private industrial park, while around 200 acres have already been allotted to various industries. The project is being planned on the lines of Sri City in Satyavedu constituency, which houses more than 260 companies from 35 countries, employing over 70,000 people", an APIIC official said.

Officials believe Kosala Nagaram has the potential to emerge as another major industrial and investment destination in the state. They said land preparation and basic utilities are to be completed soon. Thereafter, infrastructure development will gather pace, enabling industries to begin operations without major delays.
