AP District Reorganisation: CM Naidu Reviews New Proposals, State Likely to Settle at 28 Districts
The government is expected to issue the final notification for the reorganisation on December 31
Hyderabad: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu led a key review meeting in Amaravati on Saturday to fine-tune Andhra Pradesh's district reorganisation plan. The session focused on revising earlier proposals and adjusting boundaries to better address administrative and public needs.
Initial proposals had pushed the total number of districts to 29 with the planned creation of Madanapalle, Polavaram, and Markapuram. However, the latest deliberations are aimed at reducing the final count to 28 districts. Key discussions centered on boundary changes, including the proposal to merge Rajampet with Kadapa district and Rayachoti with Madanapalle. The meeting also addressed numerous objections and suggestions related to the three proposed new districts.
Local representatives strongly advocated for several specific mergers, which were reviewed during the meeting:
Donakonda and Kurichedu with Markapuram
Podili with Prakasam
Gudur with Nellore
Railway Kodur with Tirupati
Ministers Anagani Satya Prasad, Vangalapudi Anitha, and Narayana participated in the review. A sub-committee is scheduled to meet on Sunday to finalise the recommendations before they are presented to the state cabinet on Monday. The government is expected to issue the final notification for the reorganisation on December 31, following cabinet approval.
