AP Chambers Welcomes Centre’s Two-Slab GST Proposal
The AP chambers president wanted the union government to include critical sectors like food processing, textiles, handicrafts and rural industries in the lower 5 per cent GST slab: Reports
VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation (AP Chambers) has welcomed the union government’s proposal to move towards a simplified two-slab GST structure.
In a statement, AP Chambers president Potluri Bhaskar Rao said the move marks a significant step towards simplification of the taxation system in a transparent and efficient manner.
He recalled that the AP Chambers, for many years, has been requesting the union government to rationalise the GST slabs and bring down the slab rates for key sectors. The proposed reform comes at a crucial time for the MSME sector, which has been under considerable distress due to rising input costs, regulatory challenges, and market uncertainties. It provides much-needed relief, enabling MSMEs to recover and grow.
The AP chambers president wanted the union government to include critical sectors like food processing, textiles, handicrafts and rural industries in the lower 5 per cent GST slab. This would support further employment, affordability and rural development.
He underlined that a simplified GST structure, combined with sector-sensitive taxation, can pave the way for a more balanced and robust economy. “AP Chambers opines that the proposed move is a vital opportunity to not only simplify taxation, but to ensure that India’s small businesses, which are the engines of job creation, are empowered and strengthened for the future,” Bhaskar Rao added.
