The Andhra Pradesh BJP will organise a Khadi Santha in Vijayawada on October 2 as part of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary celebrations.
Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh BJP will organise a Khadi Santha in Vijayawada on October 2 as part of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary celebrations.
AP BJP spokesperson Mullapudi Renuka said on Wednesday that the event would be held from 9 am to 8 pm as part of the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan.
She called upon people to visit the santha with family members, friends and relatives and purchase handloom products.
She said that after agriculture, textiles and handlooms were playing a key role in providing employment in the country.
She said the textiles and handloom sector’s turnover had increased from nearly `33,000 crore in 2013-14 to nearly `1.7 lakh crore.
She stressed the need to promote Ponnuru Khadi, which had received geo-tagging, and handloom clusters in Mangalagiri, Venkatagiri and other areas in the state.
