Vijayawada: Leaders and supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) celebrated the party’s electoral victories with fireworks and drum beats at the party’s state office in Vijayawada on Monday.

Union minister for heavy industry and steel Bhupathi Raju Srinivasa Varma said the party retained power in Assam and Puducherry and secured a major victory in West Bengal. He said the party had no MLAs in West Bengal before 2011 but increased its tally to three in 2016, 76 in 2021 and nearly 200 in 2026, and alleged that the misrule of former chief minister Mamata Banerjee led to the defeat of the TMC.

State BJP chief P.V.N. Madhav said the results reflected public support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He said the party secured clear majorities in West Bengal, Assam and Puducherry and that voter turnout increased in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, adding that development, national security and transparent governance had received public support.
