Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh would lead India into a new era of solar manufacturing with the establishment of the country’s first integrated 6GW solar ingot and wafer production facility in Anakapalli district.

ReNew Photovoltaics, a subsidiary of ReNew Energy Global PLC, is investing Rs 3,990 crore to set up a greenfield plant at Rambilli in Anakapalli. This would be the nation’s first commercial-scale integrated ingot-wafer manufacturing unit, producing the core building blocks used for solar cells and modules.

The state investment promotion board, chaired by chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, gave its nod for the project. This would be placed before the cabinet for final approval next week.

The project would significantly reduce the nation’s dependence on imported components, especially from China, and support the country’s ambitious renewable energy goals of achieving 300gw solar capacity by 2030. The facility is backed by the central government’s production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for solar manufacturing.

The world-class facility would be developed on over 130 acres of land, which has already been identified and would soon be handed over for construction. The plant could be ready for commercial production by January 2028.

Once operational, the unit would create around 1,200 high-skilled and semi-skilled jobs and require 95mw of continuous power supply and 10mld of water.

With this milestone project, Anakapalli and Visakhapatnam would emerging as a key hub for solar and clean-energy technology. Andhra Pradesh continues to strengthen its position as a preferred destination for large-scale renewable energy investments, fueling India’s green growth transition, an official statement here said.
