AP Accelerates Green Mobility Push Under PM E-Bus Sewa
Vijayanand reviewed the progress of electric mobility infrastructure during a virtual meeting held at Vidyut Soudha along with APSRTC in-charge Managing Director M.T. Krishna Babu: Reports
VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh is rapidly expanding electric mobility infrastructure under the Centre’s PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme, with APSRTC accelerating development of charging stations and depot facilities across the state, Special Chief Secretary to Chief Minister K. Vijayanand said on Saturday.
Vijayanand reviewed the progress of electric mobility infrastructure during a virtual meeting held at Vidyut Soudha along with APSRTC in-charge Managing Director M.T. Krishna Babu. Senior officials of APTRANSCO, DISCOMS and APSRTC participated in the review.
He said the state government under Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was giving priority to green mobility initiatives aimed at pollution control, promotion of clean energy and strengthening public transport systems.
Under Tender-II of the PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has sanctioned 750 electric buses for Andhra Pradesh covering 11 cities and 12 depots. Tirupati has also received a special allocation of 300 electric buses under CESL Tender-III.
Of the 750 buses, 621 are 12-metre buses and 129 are 9-metre buses. The buses will operate in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Guntur, Nellore, Kurnool, Kakinada, Rajamahendravaram, Kadapa, Amaravati and Anantapur.
The state is also developing Behind-the-Meter charging infrastructure at all depots. Against the estimated project cost of `89.99 crore, the Central Sanctioning and Steering Committee has approved `79.98 crore for high-tension power connectivity systems, charging stations and depot-level electrical facilities.
Officials said the Centre had already released ₹17.86 crore for infrastructure works in Simhapuri, Gajuwaka, Kakinada, Kurnool and Anantapur regions. The funds were transferred to APTRANSCO and DISCOMS on March 16, 2026, while Letters of Acceptance have also been issued.
LT-side infrastructure works at all 12 depots are progressing simultaneously, with tenders finalised and work orders issued on May 5.
Vijayanand said the initiative would reduce pollution, modernise public transport, improve passenger convenience and lower long-term operational costs while positioning Andhra Pradesh as a model state in green mobility.
