VIJAYAWADA: In an effort to position NTR district as a leading tourism destination, the district administration on Thursday launched a first-of-its-kind dedicated travel services platform – Andhra Taxi – offering safe, affordable and seamless travel options for tourists.
NTR district collector Dr. G. Lakshmisha said the initiative aligns with the state government’s vision to strengthen tourism as a key driver of the service-led economy. “The district has immense potential in spiritual, ecological and heritage tourism. Through this app, we aim to provide visitors reliable, pleasant and value-for-money travel experiences,” he said.
Authorities unveiled the Andhra Taxi app at Vijayawada in the presence of representatives from taxi and auto unions, drivers, and officials of the tourism and transport departments. Designed under the supervision of the district administration, Andhra Taxi integrates cab and auto bookings with tourism information, transport utilities and an SOS feature linked to the nearest police station. Bookings can be made via the mobile app, QR code, WhatsApp and a web portal.
The platform offers curated one-day to four-day tourism packages across the district. The one-day itinerary includes visits to the Kanaka Durga Temple, Beram Park, Kondapalli Fort, Pavitra Sangamam (Ferry Ghat), Bhavani Island, Bapu Museum and Gandhi Hill. Details of longer packages are available on the app. Youth have also been trained as certified guides to assist tourists.
Calling auto and taxi drivers as “tourism ambassadors,” the collector urged them to uphold hospitality standards that enhance the image of Vijayawada and the district. Service quality will be monitored continuously, with feedback mechanisms and incentives for exemplary performance, he said.
To demonstrate ease of use, Dr. Lakshmisha booked a ride via the app and travelled up to Benz Circle, expressing satisfaction with the service.
Those who attended the app launch included district tourism officer A. Shilpa, RTO In-charge K. Venkateswara Rao, Vijayawada Taxi Owners’ Welfare Association president M. Saiprasad, and representatives of auto and taxi associations.
