Andhra Pradesh: Teacher arrested for harassing girl students
Kurnool: Tension erupted at Venkatagiri Government Primary School in Kodumur mandal on Wednesday after parents and villagers protested against a teacher accused of harassing girl students. The teacher, identified as Lakshmanna, reportedly subjected the students to abuse for several days. The matter came to light when some victims informed their parents, prompting them to confront the teacher with the support of villagers.
Angry protesters attempted to attack Lakshmanna and locked him in a classroom. Police and mandal-level education officials arrived at the scene to defuse the situation and took the accused into custody.
District Educational Officer (DEO) S. Samuel Paul suspended Lakshmanna with immediate effect, based on preliminary findings. He assured parents that alternative teaching arrangements have been made to ensure the school’s functioning, as it previously had only one teacher. The DEO announced a detailed inquiry into the incident, with further departmental action to follow based on the investigation's results.
