Vijayawada: The school education department has announced the schedule for reconstitution of School Management Committees (SMCs) in schools across the state, with elections scheduled for September 29.

The elections would be conducted in accordance with the SMC Guidelines–2026 issued by the Centre under the supervision of the school education department and Samagra Shiksha.

Samagra Shiksha state project director B. Srinivasa Rao said on Tuesday that the election process should be fair, transparent and orderly. He directed regional joint directors of school education, district educational officers and additional project coordinators to take necessary steps for smooth conduct of the elections.

As per schedule, notification for the election of SMC members, chairperson and vice-chairperson was issued at 10 am on September 15. The voter list would be displayed on school notice boards at 2 pm on September 18.

Objections to the voters list would be received and disposed of between 9 am and 1 pm on September 25. The final voter list would be finalised and displayed between 3 pm and 4 pm the same day.

On September 29, election and finalisation of SMC members would be held from 7 am to 1 pm. The chairperson and vice-chairperson would be elected at 1.30 pm, followed by the swearing-in ceremony at 2 pm. The first meeting of the newly constituted SMCs would be held from 3 pm to 3.30 pm.

Srinivasa Rao instructed officials to brief deputy educational officers, sectoral officers, mandal educational officers and headmasters on the election process and ensure strict adherence to the guidelines.

He also called upon officials to encourage private schools to constitute SMCs, stating that such committees would contribute to effective supervision and better school management.
