Andhra Pradesh Pushes RDSS Works To Ensure Reliable Power Supply
Vijayanand said adequate budgetary provisions and advance procurement measures had been made to meet the anticipated demand. He added that renewable energy generation and market conditions were being monitored continuously to ensure quality and uninterrupted power supply to consumers.
Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government has directed power utilities to expedite loss-reduction works under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) and strengthen advance planning to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply across the state, particularly during the summer season.
Reviewing the progress of power sector initiatives through a video conference from Vidyut Soudha on Friday, special chief secretary, energy department, K. Vijayanand stressed the need for faster execution of infrastructure improvement works being undertaken by the state's three power distribution companies.
He said the RDSS programme was being closely monitored under the guidance of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and energy minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar. Officials were instructed to give priority to feeder segregation, bifurcation of overloaded feeders, replacement of ageing and damaged conductors, and strengthening of the distribution network.
Vijayanand said the physical and financial progress achieved under RDSS reflected the government's focus on improving power quality, supply reliability and operational efficiency. He directed contractors, implementing agencies and Discom officials to maintain quality standards and complete sanctioned works within the stipulated timeframe through close coordination.
The special chief secretary also reviewed the state's preparedness to meet rising power demand during June and July. He said a comprehensive procurement strategy had been put in place to ensure reliable and cost-effective power supply while addressing the possible impact of El Niño conditions and seasonal demand fluctuations.
According to officials, Andhra Pradesh achieved savings of `191.05 crore between January 2026 and June 12, 2026, through efficient generation management and strategic purchases from the power market. Peak demand is projected to reach 11,688 MW in June and increase to 11,981 MW in July.
Vijayanand said adequate budgetary provisions and advance procurement measures had been made to meet the anticipated demand. He added that renewable energy generation and market conditions were being monitored continuously to ensure quality and uninterrupted power supply to consumers.
He expressed confidence that sustained planning, infrastructure upgrades and coordinated efforts among utilities would further strengthen the state's power sector and improve service delivery.
