Vijayawada: Reaffirming the State government’s commitment to achieving Net Zero carbon emissions and realising the Swarna Andhra–2047 vision, Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand on Tuesday said Andhra Pradesh’s power sector is undergoing a major transformation driven by sustainability, efficiency and affordability.

The Chief Secretary, along with the heads of all power utilities, jointly inaugurated the New Year–2026 diaries and calendars at Vidyut Soudha, symbolising unity and coordinated responsibility among APGENCO, APTRANSCO, APSPDCL, APCPDCL and NREDCAP.

Addressing the gathering, Vijayanand said Andhra Pradesh is among the leading States in loss reduction and technology adoption. Distribution losses have been brought down to around 9.6 per cent, while transmission losses stand at about 2.6 per cent, with system availability exceeding 99.9 per cent. APGENCO, he said, has improved plant performance and can sustain plant load factors above 85 per cent based on grid demand.

On the financial front, the Chief Secretary noted that focused reforms have reduced the average power procurement cost from Rs 5.19 per unit last year to about Rs 4.90 per unit, close to the ₹4.80 target for the current year. Consumers have already benefited, with electricity tariffs reduced by 13 paise per unit from November. The State has set ambitious goals to further reduce costs to Rs 4.60 per unit next year and below Rs 4 per unit by 2029 through efficiency improvements, loss reduction and prudent financial management.

Highlighting inclusive development, Vijayanand said grid-based electricity has been extended to remote tribal and hilly habitations under the PM-JANMAN programme, ensuring reliable power supply even to small and isolated settlements.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, Andhra Pradesh is emerging as a green energy hub. While the initial renewable energy target was 76 GW, approvals have already crossed 88–90 GW across solar, wind, hybrid, pumped storage, battery storage, green hydrogen and green ammonia projects. He urged all agencies to convert approvals into ground-level capacity by 2029.

The occasion also coincided with the foundation day of APCPDCL, with the Chief Secretary congratulating its team for sustained performance. Emphasising that power is a 24×7 essential service, he said uninterrupted and quality supply is vital for public satisfaction.

Extending New Year greetings on behalf of the government and energy minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar, Vijayanand expressed confidence that the power sector would continue on a strong growth and sustainability trajectory.
