Hindupur: A family suffered a devastating double tragedy on Sunday when a mother died from post-delivery complications, and her newborn daughter was killed hours later in an ambulance crash carrying the mother's body. Najma, a resident of Basanapalli Auto Nagar in Hindupur mandal, was admitted to Hindupur Government Hospital for labour. She delivered a baby girl, but her condition worsened, leading to a referral to Government General Hospital in Anantapur, where she passed away during treatment.
The family's grief deepened on the return journey. The ambulance transporting Najma's body back to Hindupur also carried the newborn and relatives. Near Basanapalli Auto Nagar on the outskirts of Hindupur, dense fog reduced visibility, causing the ambulance to collide with a lorry ahead. The infant died instantly in the impact, moments before reaching home.
Police arrived, shifted the bodies to the government hospital for post-mortem, and launched an investigation into whether the crash resulted solely from fog or involved driver negligence. The incident has plunged the Auto Nagar locality into deep sorrow, with relatives and neighbors mourning the cruel fate that claimed both mother and child on the same day.
