SP Dr Ajitha Vejendla— DC File

NELLORE: Two-wheeler motorcycle riders without helmets will not be allowed to enter Nellore city as part of measures to curb road accidents, collector Himanshu Shukla has directed the police.

At a road safety committee meeting on Tuesday, Shukla and SP Dr Ajitha Vejendla instructed officials to strengthen enforcement at all entry points and focus on accident-prone locations.

The collector called for speed breakers, reflective markings and CCTV cameras to detect wrong-route driving on highways.

He said the Good Samaritan incentive for those helping accident victims during the crucial golden hour had been increased from `5,000 to `25,000. Accident victims admitted to hospitals would also be provided free treatment of up to `1.50 lakh under the government scheme, he said.

Shukla directed the municipal corporation and traffic police to remove road-margin encroachments at major junctions, including Madras Bus Stand, RTC, Atmakur Bus Stand and Stonehousepet.

Officials were also asked to identify suitable parking space for private travel buses and improve signage at toll gates and truck lay-bys.

He directed departments to resolve the issues discussed at the meeting and submit an action-taken report at the next review.
