Andhra Pradesh: Guntur Police Launch Abhay Auto App With QR Verification System

Launching the initiative at the Guntur Police Kalyana Mandapam, Guntur superintendent of police Vakul Jindal said the technology-driven system was aimed at enhancing transparency, accountability and passenger safety.

Under the new system, only autorickshaws whose registration documents, driving licences and fitness certificates have been verified by the police will be issued a unique QR code-linked registration number. The QR codes will be displayed on the front, rear and inside the vehicles.

Passengers can scan the QR code using their mobile phones to access details such as the driver’s name, vehicle number, owner's name, contact number and address. The QR code also enables users to download the Abhay Auto Guntur app from the Google Play Store.

Jindal said the initiative would act as a deterrent against crime and misconduct.

“While 99.9 per cent of autorickshaw drivers are honest, a small fraction may indulge in irresponsible behaviour. This digital system will help prevent harassment, especially of women, and ensure safer travel for all passengers,” he said.

Referring to a recent incident in which a woman travelling from Vijayawada to Pedakakani was rescued after using the SOS feature on the Shakti App, the SP said the Abhay Auto Guntur app would offer similar safety features. The application includes an SOS alert linked to the police control room and nearby police stations, enables users to share their live location with family members, and helps trace vehicles if passengers leave behind their belongings.

Passengers and autorickshaw drivers welcomed the initiative, saying it would improve commuter safety while protecting genuine drivers.

Senior police officers, IT officials, app developers, media representatives and a large number of autorickshaw drivers attended the launch.
