KURNOOL: District collectors across Andhra Pradesh are expected to face anxious moments at the two-day Collectors’ Conference scheduled from Thursday, September 10, under the chairmanship of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, as the IVRS-based public perception survey reveals significant dissatisfaction among people with several government services.

The survey, conducted through the Real-Time Governance Society (RTGS), sought public feedback on various issues across all districts. The findings have reported public dissatisfaction with several departments, particularly in parts of Rayalaseema.

Kurnool, Nandyal, Kadapa and Anantapur, besides Palnadu and Nellore, are among the districts where people have expressed strong dissatisfaction. The findings are likely to find an echo at the Collectors’ Conference. This has led to officials preparing detailed explanations and action plans.

Drinking water supply in rural areas has emerged as a major concern in Kurnool, Nandyal, and Kadapa districts, with more than 56 per cent of respondents expressing dissatisfaction. Only around 44 per cent said the situation was satisfactory.

The survey has found that nearly 70 per cent of respondents remain unhappy after submitting their grievances at the weekly Public Grievance Redressal System (PGRS) meetings conducted under the supervision of collectors.

Road conditions are another major source of public anger. 39.63 per cent of people have expressed serious dissatisfaction with potholes and poor road conditions. In rural areas, more than 53 per cent describe their travel experience as highly difficult and seek immediate repairs.

V. Mastan Rao of Emmiganur in Kurnool district says the roads connecting his village are in an extremely poor condition. “The roads are so bad that even travelling on a two-wheeler has become difficult. Authorities should take up repairs immediately,” he said.

Drinking water problems in urban areas have also been highlighted, with around 34 per cent of respondents reporting difficulties through the IVRS survey.

Public dissatisfaction over the functioning of RTC services is another notable finding. More than 30 per cent of respondents from Rayalaseema districts up to Guntur have complained that buses are not arriving on time, causing considerable inconvenience to passengers.

Responding to concerns over rural roads, Kurnool Panchayat Raj SE S.J. Sarat Chandra Reddy said proposals have already been submitted for road development works. “Panchayat Raj roads worth ₹150 crore are expected to be taken up shortly,” he revealed.

Officials are said to be puzzled by differences between surveys conducted by different departments. While the IVRS feedback reportedly indicated better PDS rice supply in Alluri Sitarama Raju district compared to several Rayalaseema districts, a separate survey conducted by the Civil Supplies department reportedly gave a different picture, with Rayalaseema performing better than Alluri district.

“The findings of different surveys are showing different results. We have to examine the reasons for these variations and place the facts before the government,” a collector pointed out.
