Kakinada: A four-year-old boy, Kadamanchi Srinu, tragically died after falling into a water-filled pit near an overhead tank in Diwancheruvu village of Rajanagaram mandal, East Godavari district.
According to sources, the pit—measuring 5x6 feet—had been dug by panchayat personnel to repair a damaged valve on the tank’s pipelines. While playing nearby, Srinu accidentally slipped into the rainwater-filled pit. His father, Durga Prasad, is a daily wage labourer.
Upon receiving information, Rajanagaram mandal tahsildar A.L. Devi visited the spot and conducted an enquiry. East Godavari district collector P. Prashanthi later visited the bereaved family and consoled them. She explained that the pit had not been filled due to ongoing repair work. The tahsildar submitted a report on the incident, and the collector assured the family that financial assistance would be considered through the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF). She also promised preventive measures to avoid such tragedies in the future.
