Of the 35 ZPTC seats in the district, candidates were elected unanimously in four constituencies — Srikalahasti, Yerpedu, Naidupeta and Ozili. The remaining 31 seats are being contested by 126 candidates.

Similarly, of the 444 MPTC seats, 137 were filled through unanimous elections, leaving 307 seats for polling. A total of 832 candidates are contesting these seats.

The district administration has set up 1,505 polling stations, with webcasting at every location to monitor the polling process. A command control room will enable Election Commission and district officials to oversee polling across the district.

District election officer and district collector Dr S. Venkateswar said all arrangements had been completed for the smooth and peaceful conduct of the elections. A total of 10,565 personnel have been deployed for election duties, while micro-observers have been appointed at 753 sensitive and highly sensitive polling stations.

Around 2,500 police personnel will be deployed for security. SP L. Subba Rayudu said route mobile teams, striking forces and special striking forces would be deployed. Additional surveillance would be maintained in sensitive and vulnerable areas to prevent untoward incidents.

Around 3,774 election staff members have used the postal ballot facility for ZPTC elections, while another 2,973 have cast postal ballots for MPTC elections. Eight strong rooms have been arranged to secure ballot boxes after polling. Counting will take place at these centres on November 7.

Meanwhile, liquor shops have remained closed since Tuesday evening in areas outside municipal limits as part of election-related restrictions. The district administration has declared a holiday on Thursday in mandals where polling is being held, excluding municipal areas.
