Naidu Calls on Central Ministers, Seeks Aid for AP Projects

VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu met Union Water Resources Minister CR Patil in New Delhi on Tuesday and sought central help to speed up the Polavaram and Banakacharla projects. The meeting was attended also by ministers Ram Mohan Naidu, Pemmasani Chandrasekhar and several TD MPs.

Naidu met some other central ministers too and gave them an update on the various projects of the AP government and the central schemes.

The Chief Minister landed in New Delhi on Monday night at the conclusion of his vacation abroad. He met four ministers and discussed the state’s issues with them.

In his meeting with Jal Shakti minister C.R. Patil, Naidu sought early allocation of central funds for the Jal Jeevan Mission scheme in AP. He briefed patil on the proposed Polavaram-Banakacharla link project, which aims at making AP drought-free and sought central backing.

Discussions were also held on the Atal Bhujal Yojana and the Chief Minister highlighted the state’s initiatives to improve groundwater levels. He pleaded for central funding for the initiative.

Later, Naidu had a meeting with law minister Arjun Meghwal. He discussed the plan for establishment of a high court bench in Kurnool. He urged the Centre to initiate the necessary procedures.

During a meeting with commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal, Naidu highlighted the challenges faced by the aqua sector in AP due to the revised tariffs in the US. He pointed out that the 26 per cent tariff imposed on Indian seafood has adversely impacted AP’s aqua industry.

The Chief Minister urged the minister to hold discussions with the US Administration to safeguard the interests of aqua farmers. He suggested short-term, medium-term, and long-term measures to address the issue.

Naidu met home minister, Amit Shah, apprised him of the several key initiatives undertaken by the state government and sought his support in their implementation.
