Anantapur Honey-trap Case: CI Among Four Cops Dismissed

Police seized Rs.11 lakh in cash and promissory notes allegedly used in the extortion racket.

Anantapur: In a major crackdown in the sensational honey-trap extortion case in Anantapur, Rapthadu Circle Inspector Sri Harsha and three other policemen attached to Rapthadu police station were dismissed from service for their alleged nexus with the gang.

Anantapur Rural Inspector Shekhar was surrendered to the Kurnool DIG over alleged negligence in acting on complaints linked to the case.

The honey-trap racket had created a sensation in Anantapur, with a gang allegedly targeting retired personnel, realtors and others over the past few months. The case came to light after a surveyor lodged a complaint with Superintendent of Police P. Jagadeesh, who took the matter seriously and constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT).

Police arrested around seven persons, including local leaders belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party and YSR Congress Party. During the operation, police seized Rs.11 lakh in cash and promissory notes allegedly used in the extortion racket.

Four days ago, the Anantapur DIG had attached Fourth Town Inspector Rajendranath and Rapthadu CI Sri Harsha pending inquiry. Authorities have now dismissed Sri Harsha along with head constable Giri and constables Durgaprasad and Naik for their alleged direct role in the extortion.

Anantapur Rural SI Rambabu and constables Devendra and Jayaram Nayak were placed under suspension in connection with the case.

Meanwhile, the BJP district committee announced the suspension of three women leaders, including Chinni, over their alleged links to the case.
