Visakhapatnam: Nakkapalli Police in Anakapalli district arrested four individuals and seized 840 kg of ganja worth ₹42 lakh on Tuesday. The operation took place at Vedullapalem Junction in Nakkapalli Mandal around 8 am, following a tip-off.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, SP Tuhin Sinha said the police intercepted a Bolero vehicle and two motorcycles during a vehicle inspection drive. Upon inspection, they discovered 840 kg of ganja concealed in 20 bags. Three mobile phones were also seized from the suspects.
According to the investigation, the ganja was sourced from the Janaba region in Odisha and transported via a carefully planned route. The group loaded the contraband at Uyyala Bridge, passed through Dharakonda and Chintapalli, and reached Downur.
To bypass the Downur checkpost, the smugglers used a deceptive tactic—unloading the ganja before the checkpoint, carrying it by foot through garden paths, and reloading it into the vehicle after crossing. The consignment was bound for Karnataka via Tallapalem when intercepted.
The arrested individuals were identified as Pangi Arjuna Rao (32), Vanthala Suresh (23), Kaisarla Diwakar (23)—a repeat offender with prior cases in Rolugunta and Kirlampudi—and Yalamanchili Ramana (60). Sukri Arjun of Mangopalem village in Chintapalli mandal is believed to be the mastermind.
A case (Crime No. 119/2025) has been registered under Sections 20(b)(ii)(C) and 25 read with 8(c) of the NDPS Act at the Nakkapalli Police Station. A special team has been formed to apprehend others involved in the trafficking network.
