VISAKHAPATNAM: Anakapalle district police seized 600 kg of ganja worth Rs 3 crore being transported from Odisha through Anakapalle towards Tuni and arrested three persons on Thursday.

The arrested were identified as Shiek Mastan Valli of Dharmajigudem in West Godavari, Shiek Madina and Pongi Ratnalu of ASR district.

According to police, to evade checkpoints, the gang allegedly moved the ganja in small quantities from the Odisha border by foot and motorcycle, with the assistance of some of the accused. The consignments were later loaded into a van.

A four-wheeler was allegedly deployed as a pilot vehicle to facilitate the movement towards Tuni, police said.

Three other accused from Odisha, Narsipatnam and ASR district are absconding. Special teams have been formed to trace and arrest them.

SP Tuhin Sinha said the district police were intensifying surveillance and checking operations with the objective of making Anakapalle a completely ganja-free district.
