72-Feet Eco-Friendly Clay Ganesha Idol to Come Up in Vijayawada
The Doondi Ganesh Seva Samiti laid the foundation stone for the massive idol on Thursday
VIJAYAWADA: A 72-feet eco-friendly clay Ganesha idol, inspired by Hyderabad's famed Khairatabad Ganesh, will be installed in Vijayawada for this year's Vinayaka Chavithi celebrations. The Doondi Ganesh Seva Samiti laid the foundation stone for the massive idol on Thursday. “This will be one of the tallest clay Ganesha idols in Andhra Pradesh,” the organisers declared.
Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath attended the ceremony as the chief guest and unveiled a model of the proposed idol. Stressing the need to balance devotion with environmental responsibility, the MP encouraged more organisations to adopt eco-friendly practices during festivals. He recalled that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had attended last year's eco-friendly idol immersion programme and had appealed to people across the state to use only environment-friendly idols during Vinayaka Chavithi celebrations.
Sivanath appreciated that Vijayawada has been celebrating all festivals while upholding communal harmony.
