District Superintendent of Police Dr Ajitha Vejendla handed over the recovered mobile phones to beneficiaries at the district police office on Friday.
TIRUPATI: Nellore district police recovered and returned 570 lost and stolen mobile phones worth about Rs 1.14 crore to their owners under the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) initiative.
District Superintendent of Police Dr Ajitha Vejendla handed over the recovered mobile phones to beneficiaries at the district police office on Friday.
She said the district police had so far recovered and returned 5,010 mobile phones worth nearly `10 crore in nine phases.
The SP said the recovery was made through the CEIR portal with coordinated efforts by the district Cyber Crime wing and local police.
She said mobile phones traced in other districts and states were recovered with the support of the respective police departments and returned to the owners.
Dr Ajitha Vejendla said mobile phones had become essential for communication, banking, education, employment and business activities, and losing them often caused inconvenience as well as concerns over personal data.
She urged the public to report lost or stolen phones immediately through the CEIR portal or at the nearest police station to help police block and trace the devices quickly.
Warning offenders against theft, the SP said strict action would be taken against those involved in such crimes.
She also advised people to preserve purchase bills and IMEI details of their mobile phones and avoid purchasing second-hand devices without proper documentation.
A special team comprising technically trained police personnel under the supervision of CI-rank officers has been carrying out mobile tracking and recovery operations in the district.
The SP appreciated the efforts of the Cyber Crime team, Station House Officers and other personnel involved in the recovery process.
