Nellore: As many as 56 spherical metal objects were found inside a pot that fell from an ancient bastion at Yerrabalem village in Markapuram district following recent rains.

Villagers initially mistook the objects for diamonds and kept them safely at the local Rama temple. After learning about the discovery on Sunday, police, revenue and archaeology officials inspected the objects and took them into custody.

Sub-inspector Sivakrishna Reddy said the spheres might have been made by melting aluminium and shaping it into round objects.

The objects will be sent to the Archaeology Department in Nellore for further examination to establish their nature and origin.
