55 Transmission Projects Worth Rs 4965 cr Under Execution In AP
Chief Secretary who also oversees the energy department, K Vijayanand, said these projects would enhance the system capacity for power evacuation and meet the rising energy demand in these regions.
Vijayawada: AP TRANSCO has strengthened the state’s power transmission system, under which 18 transmission projects – including those for augmentation of ICT capacity, additional bus reactors for reactive power management comprising seven 400kV and eleven 220kV stations -- have been commissioned at a total cost of Rs 1095 crore.
Chief Secretary who also oversees the energy department, K Vijayanand, said these projects would enhance the system capacity for power evacuation and meet the rising energy demand in these regions.
Vijayanand was chairing a high-level review meeting in online mode on Friday that assessed the progress of APTRANSCO’s major infrastructure works across key project zones of Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, and Kadapa.
He said 55 transmission projects, including those for augmentation of ICT capacity and additional bus reactors for reactive power management worth `4965 crore, are under various stages of execution. These projects span voltage levels from 400kV to 132kV and are scheduled for commissioning over the current year and the next two financial years.
He said, “Furthering these efforts, APTRANSCO has recently placed orders for nearly 10 major transmission projects at a cost of Rs 3407 crore. These include important works such as the diversion of 400kV and 220kV lines within the APCRDA region. In addition, tenders are being floated for 47 upcoming works costing `5323 crore under various government schemes.”
These initiatives would further strengthen the grid and benefit end-use consumers by ensuring improved delivery of electricity,” Vijayanand said.
He said under the guidance of energy minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar, the AP TRANSCO is also preparing to meet the anticipated daily consumption that is expected to reach around 260 million units. The power entity is taking proactive steps to expedite ongoing and upcoming projects to ensure uninterrupted and reliable 24x7 power supply.
“These projects are critical to strengthening the transmission backbone of AP, especially in rapidly expanding urban and industrial zones. They will also play a key role in facilitating the integration of solar, wind, hydel and pumped storage power into the grid, aligning with the state’s vision for clean and sustainable energy,” he said.
Vijayanand reiterated AP TRANSCO’s commitment to building a resilient, modern and scalable transmission network. He emphasised that the timely execution of these projects is not only vital for achieving the state’s energy goals but also for ensuring long-term power reliability and supporting AP’s economic growth.
JMD of the power entity Kirthi Chekuri, director of grid AKV Bhaskar, CE of projects Sudeevan Kumar, SE/projects Ramachandra Prasad and K Bindu and other officials participated in the review.
