51 Gurukul Students Fall Ill In Vizianagaram

Visakhapatnam: Fifty-one students of the Andhra Pradesh Residential Junior College (Girls) at Gurukul College in Gantyada mandal, Vizianagaram district, fell ill on Wednesday, sparking concern among parents and officials.
According to Saradabai Chowdhury, principal of APRJC Tatipudi, the illness began with two students in the morning but spread rapidly, affecting 51 by evening. The sudden outbreak caused panic within the campus.
Medical teams from Kottayam PHC rushed to the college after being alerted. Medical officer Harika said her staff provided immediate medical services and observed symptoms including viral fever, body pains, and dizziness. Seven students in serious condition were shifted to Srungavarapukota Area Hospital for emergency treatment.
DEO Jeevan Rani, who visited the college, directed local medical staff to investigate the causes of the outbreak.
The incident has raised questions about health monitoring in residential colleges and the need for stronger safeguards to protect students from sudden viral infections.
