Relief teams equipped with personnel, machinery and essential materials are working at 53 locations.

Vijayawada:The roads department has set up 30 control rooms and assistance centres along state, major district and national highways to coordinate emergency response to Cyclone Murasu

This was stated on Tuesday by minister B.C. Janardhan Reddy. Forty coordinating officers have been appointed to supervise relief and road restoration work. The roads department has identified 178 vulnerable locations likely to be affected by the cyclone and placed them under special surveillance.

A total of 471 JCBs and 421 power saws have been deployed across the state for emergency operations. Relief teams equipped with personnel, machinery and essential materials are working at 53 locations.

Control rooms are functioning round the clock and reviewing ground-level conditions, the minister said in a statement issued from Amaravati on November 3.

Free telephone help desks have also been arranged in major municipal corporations to assist the public. Officials are monitoring water flow near roads, bridges and culverts to prevent blockages. Precautionary measures are being taken on low-lying stretches and roads prone to flooding.

The minister said the roads department is clearing fallen trees to prevent traffic disruption. Personnel and machinery are on standby to repair breaches caused by floods. Teams are also identifying and removing hazardous dry and dead trees. Sandbags and construction materials have been stocked at vulnerable points to plug breaches.

Special disaster-response teams remain on alert at locations where roads had suffered breaches in the past. Engineering officials and field staff are monitoring the situation and participating in relief operations. Leave has been cancelled to ensure staff availability during emergencies.
