3 Held With 194 Kg Ganja In Anakapalle

As many as 1,177 kgs of dry cannabis and 7.14 kgs of hash oil was seized in 46 cases so far in 2026

The Anakapalli police arrested three persons at Gonnavanipalem Junction in Anakapalle district and seized 194 kgs of dry cannabis worth around `97 lakh from them on Tuesday.

Anakapalle superintendent of police Tuhin Sinha said the arrested persons were identified as Gummala Perunaidu and G. Ganesh (driver), both from Bailapudi village of Cheedikada mandal, and M. Sattibabu from Gajjedu village in Pedabayalu mandal of ASR district. Perunaidu was accused in six cases of ganja trade in the past.
Police said that on May 11 afternoon, police and Elite Anti-Narcotics Group for Law Enforcement (Eagle) teams conducted vehicular check-ups on Bangarumetta-Anakapalle road near Gonnavanipalem under Butchayyapeta mandal. Police intercepted a scooter and a car and, upon checking, found ganja packets in the car. Police seized the cannabis and nabbed the three persons. Further investigation is on to nab others.
As many as 1,177 kgs of dry cannabis and 7.14 kgs of hash oil was seized in 46 cases so far in 2026, the SP added. A total of 24 drug peddlers were sentenced in 13 cases in the year so far, and 16 of them were sentenced to 10 to 15 years jail, he added.
The police gave orders to conduct investigations into the financial transactions and assets of those involved in cannabis trade in the district and seized `1.25 crore illegal assets amassed by the ganja smugglers, the SP said.

Vizag 34-year-old AP man dies of heart attack in Congo

A 34-year-old man from Annamayya district died of a heart attack in Congo on Monday.

The deceased was identified as P. Sreekanth Reddy, a native of Kalicherla village in Peddamandyam mandal. According to family members, he had been working at a private company in Congo for the past 11 years.

They said Sreekanth suffered heart attack while out on a morning walk on Monday. He was immediately rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

He is survived by his wife and a four-year-old daughter. Family members said he used to visit his native village once every two years. His father and former MPP Prasad Reddy said the Sreekanth’s mortal remains are expected to arrive in India after three days.

Traffic SI dismissed in connection with cheating woman

A sub-inspector attached to the Kurnool Traffic police station has been dismissed from service in connection with a fraud case involving a young woman from Nandyal.

The officer, identified as Hari Prasad, was accused of cheating the woman under the pretext of love. Following a complaint lodged by the victim, senior police officials ordered an inquiry into the allegations.

After a detailed investigation conducted over the past several days, authorities terminated Hari Prasad from service.

The action comes shortly after the dismissal of CI Sriharsha and two constables in Anantapur district in connection with a honey-trap case.

Officials said the back-to-back dismissals reflect a firm stance against moral misconduct and misuse of position within the police department.
