ANANTAPUR: In a major breakthrough, Anantapur police busted a gunrunning racket in Anantapur city, arresting three of the gang members.

One of them is the owner of a fitness centre in Anantapur and the other two are from MP. Police have seized five country-made pistols, magazines, 30 live bullets and three empty bullet shells from them on Friday.

Anantapur superintendent of police P. Jagadish told media that Two Town police had come to know about Rajasekhar Reddy, the fitness centre owner, firing a round in the air while threatening his wife with a pistol following a family quarrel.

Police registered a case against Rajasekhar Reddy and interrogated him. Following up on the information swiftly, a special team of Two Town, Three Town and CCS police apprehended Rohit Parmar and Shivam Singh Parihar of Morena district in Madhya Pradesh.

Rohit and Shivam procured country-made guns and bullets at low prices from unidentified persons in the Gwalior-Morena belt and sold them illegally in other states. Rajashekar Reddy became acquainted with them about three years ago when he went to Jalandhar to purchase gym equipment.

Rajashekar Reddy illegally acquired a country made pistol with their help. He later assisted Rohit and Shivam in selling the country-made guns locally using his contacts. They sold each gun for ₹40,000–₹50,000.

SP Jagadish said their investigation is continuing to identify other persons involved in the illegal arms supply.
