Visakhapatnam: The animal husbandry department conducted free veterinary camps across Parvathipuram Manyam district from January 19 to 31, providing treatment to 22,475 cattle, district animal husbandry officer Dr S. Manmadha Rao said.

Of the total, 4,591 cattle were treated for uterine diseases, while 591 underwent artificial insemination. Under the sex-sorted semen programme, aimed at increasing the birth of female calves, services were extended to 128 cattle.

During the drive, deworming medication was administered to 1,86,643 sheep and goats, while 78,400 sheep were vaccinated against sheep pox. A total of 2,18,245 chickens were inoculated with various vaccines to reduce mortality. In addition, 42,768 cows and buffaloes received deworming treatment.

Manmadha Rao said the success of the camps was due to the efforts of 364 staff members, organised into 30 teams, who worked from early morning to late evening despite cold weather conditions.

He said the ‘Manyam Gobala Sambaram’ programme, conducted under the guidance of the district collector, had received state-level recognition and helped improve farmers’ confidence. The objective of the initiative was to promote dairy farming as a primary source of income rather than an allied agricultural activity.

The camps also focused on creating awareness among farmers about scientific cattle management practices. The officer thanked all officials and staff who contributed to the successful conduct of the programme.
